Ofiura con un diámetro corporal de unos 10 cm. El disco subpentagonal se encuentra revestido de espículas, excepto a nivel de los escudos radiales que están desnudos. Con siete espinas a nivel de cada placa braquial lateral. Coloración muy variable, desde uniforme a jaspeada, con tonalidades violeta, azul, verde, gris, marrón, rojo o blanquecino. Se puede observar de forma abundante debajo de piedras o en grietas de rocas a poca profundidad.
Distribución:
- Atlántico: desde la Península Ibérica hasta Noruega
- Mediterráneo: Occidental y oriental.
