Diplastrella bistellata (Schmidt, 1862)
Esponja Incrustante frágil, debido a su escaso grosor de aproximadamente 1 mm, y aterciopelada. Canales radiales acuíferos bien visibles partiendo de los ósculos. Ostiolos visibles como puntos de color oscuro. Esqueleto formado por tilostilos y ásteres (oxiesferáster). Color amarillo verdoso.
HÁBITAT
En comunidades de cuevas oscuras.
DISTRIBUCIÓN
- Atlántico: Brasil, Azores, Cabo Verde, Canarias, Madeira y aguas europeas hasta el mar del Norte
- Mediterráneo: Occidental y Oriental
ESPECIES SEMEJANTES
Es muy similar a Spirastrella cunctatrix Schmidt, 1868, la cual presenta un color más anaranjado, superficie híspida y ósculos de gran tamaño. Para una diferenciación exacta hay que estudiar las espículas del esqueleto. En S. cunctatrix esta formado por tilostilos de 430-640 µm x 8-10 µm y espirasteres de 15-30 µm de longitud, mientras que en D. bistellata por tilostilos de 330x460 µm x 7-10 µm y esferasteres (diplasteres) de 12-32 µm de diámetro. (Bibionim et al. 1989)
